This is a tune commissioned by JBB in 2015, and its inspiration came from Finnish folkloric tales and music. At first, I wrote a lead-sheet out of a melody that could’ve been a piece of Finnish folk music. Then I wrote the big band arrangement in the old-school way—using manuscript paper instead of a computer program. I tried to achieve extreme clarity and create a clean-sounding composition, combining many elements without using digital aides I think it worked out well.
I am happy that this is the recording’s namesake tune. I want to dedicate this to all of my friends and amazing musicians from JBB.
